Michael C. Lutfy has spent years developing his skills as an attorney to help serve his clients. Mr. Lutfy has served as a law clerk under two federal judges—the Honorable H. Christopher Mott of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in the Western District of Texas and the Honorable Paul G. Hyman of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in the Southern District of Florida. Throughout his time as a law clerk, Mr. Lutfy observed and participated in countless hearings and was responsible for personally advising both federal judges on cases and disputes that were before them.
Mr. Lutfy received his Bachelor of Arts in History with magna cum laude honors from Rutgers University—New Brunswick. Mr. Lutfy graduated from St. John's University School of Law with cum laude honors, graduating 24th in his class out of 304 students. Throughout law school, Mr. Lutfy was recognized for his excellence, receiving the highest grades in many of his classes, including: Evidence, Property, Secured Transactions, Bankruptcy Litigation, Federal Courts, and Securitization. Mr. Lutfy was also a member of the St. John's Moot Court Honor Society and American Bankruptcy Institute Law Review.
In addition, after receiving his Juris Doctor, Mr. Lutfy obtained a Master of Laws. (L.L.M.) in Bankruptcy Law from St. John's University School of Law. In the Master's Program, Mr. Lutfy received instruction from top bankruptcy practitioners and federal bankruptcy judges presiding in the Southern District of New York and the District of Delaware. Many of his professors were personally involved in some of the biggest bankruptcy cases that have ever been filed in bankruptcy history, including General Motors, Lehman Brothers, Washington Mutual, and Worldcom, Inc.
